Hygiene and Sanitation are extremely important for the well-being of any place. A nation too cannot survive unless it progressively becomes neater, cleaner and its sanitation systemized. In India, the conditions of sanitation and hygiene are not constant throughout the nation. In other words, in rural India, you would find that the conditions of sanitation are way worse than those in metropolitan cities. Thus, the kind of work required to be done in rural areas is way different from that in cities and towns.

Proper sanitation wards off diseases. Most of the diseases that thrive in rural areas of developing and underdeveloped countries can be prevented with proper hygiene and sanitation programs. In other words, a lot of deaths can be prevented by proper sanitation and hygiene. In cities, this problem is little to non-existent and only exists in the slums. Of course, the government should also take into account the slums when drawing up policies vis-à-vis sanitation.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a program that was launched by the Modi-led government back in 2014. This program’s major aim was to transform India into a cleaner and better space. However, the program identified that the needs of rural and urban India were quite different. Thus, the program was divided into two parts — Swachh Bharat Urban and Swachh Bharat Gramin.

In rural India, the sanitation conditions were completely different from the sanitation conditions of urban India. In rural India, the sanitation system was almost non-existent. From open-defecation to a non-existent waste management system, the problems in rural India were many. Thus, many non-profit organizations began working with the government to better the conditions of rural as well as urban India.

All of these organizations chose to work under the banner program of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. India Sanitation Coalition is one such organization which shares the vision of the government of India when it comes to the nation’s sanitation and hygiene conditions. This organization provides a yearly platform to other organizations which bring to the table their ideas which can contribute to the cause of India Sanitation Coalition as well as that of the government.
