Swachh Bharat Mission -Sanitation Practices Starts At The Homeground

Cleanliness is not one of our strongest suits, as a country. We find ourselves among litter and unhygienic surroundings every day, and it only has been worsening with the country going through developmental leaps. With the flashing lights, metros and skyscrapers lining the country, there are also blocked drainage systems, litter and overflowing dustbins. The first step towards development is keeping our landscapes clean and sanitary. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for urban areas is an initiative which has started a revolution in the urban landscape. Some of the few things which go into improving the sanitation of a city are:

● Drainage: Better drainage can be start to a better tomorrow. Blocked drainage and unsanitary leakages can ruin an environment. If the country is working towards being sanitary, there should be special attention paid toward better drainage.

● Waste management: The main problem in most cases is improper waste management, which leads to overflowing garbage bins and smelly public places. Figuring out a way towards a proper waste management system is an essential step towards a sanitised city

● Better and more toilets: We need more public toilets and better toilets which essentially is not falling apart or has running water. Building more toilets means no open defecation, which is an unsightly vision in an urban area. Also, public restrooms need to be restocked and kept in good condition to encourage more usage.

Sanitation never goes in vain. In this era of globalisation, it is not the highs which only counts. Of course, there are better amenities and interfaces, but how bad is bad, and are they getting better? That is exactly what counts. Improving the state of the urban underbelly is extremely important, as it sets the standard of the country. There are several organisations which are doing their best to keep the environment clean and keep the litter under control. India Sanitation Coalition is one such initiative which does the dirty work to keep the country in a sanitised condition with its Swachh Bharat Mission. It has created a significant impact on the aesthetic appeal of the nation.
