India has a very rich history and is considered to be an ancient civilization. But it is a poor reality of our nation that all the cleanliness and piousness is only limited to religious movements or kitchen. We as citizens are not concerned about the dirt all around us, and anywhere one looks huge mounds of trash will be found. It’s not in our practice to keep our neighbourhood tidy and sanitized. At the maximum, we keep our own homes clean and it is of no business of ours to be concerned about streets, lanes, playgrounds or other public areas. Even after 72 years of Independence, it is especially shameful that Indians are recognised for their unhygienic habits. But, Swachh Bharat mission aim is to provide sanitation amenities to every family, with its Swachh Bharat rural movement, including toilets, waste disposal arrangements, village cleanliness, and pure and adequate drinking water supply. Swachh Bharat urban and rural campaign is not only the responsibility of the Government but each and every citizen of the nation is equally obligated to keep the country clean or swachh.

Swachh Bharat India

Here are the key elements of Swachh Bharat India:

  • To eradicate the practice of open defecation in India.
  • To transform the insanitary toilets into drain flush toilets.
  • To remove the practice of manual scavenging.
  • To make citizens aware of healthy sanitation methods by bringing behavioural changes in citizens.
  • To link people with the arrangements of sanitation and public health to general public knowledge.
  • To build up the urban social bodies strong in order to create, execute and operate all systems linked to cleanliness.
  • To completely begin the scientific processing, disposals reuse and recycling the materials from waste.
  • To provide the necessary environment for the private areas to get participated in the nation’s cost for all the operations and support costs related to the clean drive.

The campaign of Swachh Bharat India from ISC is a movement, which is the significant step taken ever as a sanitation and cleanliness drive till date. On the day of the inauguration of the campaign around 3 million government workers including students from institutions and schools had participated in the event to make it spread globally and make the common people aware of it. It had concentrated to convert the dry toilets to the low-cost sanitary toilets, to construct toilets particularly for rural women with other amenities of the hand pump, bathing place, sanitation, washing hands, etc with Swachh Bharat rural. It was targeted that all the given facilities should be correctly managed by the village Panchayats. Proper sanitation of the rural areas such as drain methods, soakage pits, dumping of solid wastes and liquid wastes, information of health education, awareness for social, private, household and environmental cleanliness and sanitation etc.
